A Designer Handbag should not just look good on the shelf—It should look good on YOU!

There are thousands of styles and designs to choose from, which makes it difficult to find the perfect designer bag. If you’re unsure of which types of handbags work best with the shape of your body, you may end up choosing styles which make you look large or out of proportion. Instead, choose the category (and the bag) which best reflects your body type:

Tall and Thin

If you are long and lean, you can get away with almost any form of handbag. Clutches, oversized handbags and shoulder bags will suit you fantastically, but the size of the bag needs to be considered. Oversized, large bags are going to look best on you, whereas smaller ones are going to make you look even taller than you already are. If you want to purchase a smaller handbag, make sure it fits snugly under your shoulders. Choose a slouchy designer hobo bag, rounded bag or half-moon shaped purse. If you are 6-feet tall, avoid cute miniature evening bags or mini hand-held pouches that you overwhelm with your stature.

Short and Plump

Shorter girls need to pay very careful attention to the types of handbags they choose. Smaller bags tend to look best since larger ones will overpower you and make you look even shorter. Shorter purses (especially those which fit tightly against your body) will create height and make you look taller than you really are. If you are short and round, choose a tall, rectangular tote with long straps, or a long sleek structured clutch.

Curvy

If you’re lucky enough to have an hourglass figure you will want to accentuate your waistline. To do this, you will need to find a bag which hits just above the waist. This style and length is going to be most flattering. Medium sized bags work best to enhance your already gorgeous body type.

Plus Size

If you’re plus size, you will want to stay away from small bags which tend to make you look bigger than you are. Bags with short straps should also be avoided. Choose styles which are larger and slightly wider than normal sizes since they will make you appear smaller.

Petite

If you are very petite, stay away from extremely large bags. Instead, choose a long clutch or rectangular tote that hits your leg and gives the appearance of elongation. If you have a slim waste, choose a designer purse with shoulder straps that allow the bottom of the bag to hit your waist.

Pear-Shaped
Choose a structured cigar box purse or a sleek rectangular Kelly bag.

To accentuate cleavage
Choose a close-fitting bag with short straps which lie right under your armpit.

To minimize a Large bust
Avoid close-fitting handbags which rest under the arm (this will further enlarge you bust and feel cramped). Instead opt for a purse with long shoulder straps.
